Charles Edward “Charlie” Callahan, 82, New Smyrna Beach, went to his eternal home on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Charlie was born in Atlanta, GA and moved to the area in 1974 from his birthplace. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era and the US Marine Corps reserves. He was a member and Deacon of Spruce Creek Baptist Church, Port Orange and was former Lay Director of Lighthouse Via DeCristo. He was also Tournament Director for the PGA Senior Golf Tournament at Pelican Bay, Daytona Beach, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Audrey Summerour Callahan; son, Charles “Tim” (Shelley) Callahan of Waleska, GA; daughters, Teri (Richard) Townsend of Daytona Beach and Kelly (Mike) Smiddy of New Smyrna Beach; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his church family and many friends. Charlie was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Callahan and three brothers. Memorial Service will be 3 PM Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Spruce Creek Baptist Church, 1952 Taylor Road, Port Orange with Pastor Stephen Loy, officiating. Cremation will be by Dudley Crematory, New Smyrna Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church or VITAS Hospice, 2381 Mason Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
