Margaret Anne McKenzie Davis
September 22, 1931 - March 14, 2017

Margaret “Anne” McKenzie Davis died Tuesday evening, March 14, 2017 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, surrounded by family.  Anne was the loving wife of Jimmy Davis, to whom she was married for fifty years, the devoted mother of seven children, and “Granny” to sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  A founding elder of Christ Community Church, New Smyrna Beach and prior to that, a longtime Sunday school teacher at First Baptist  Church, Edgewater, she may be remembered by many seated behind the guidance desk at New Smyrna Beach Senior High School, where she acted as guidance clerk for fifteen years.  Generations of surfers recall her warm and welcoming home on the north beach, and friends and strangers alike could depend on a welcoming word from her as she sat at her regular table at the Beacon Restaurant.  Bright blue and clear-eyed, a strong Christian and a deeply engaged public citizen of fierce spirit and unmatched intellect, Anne’s legacy is her generosity, most particularly to children, from whom she continually learned and to whom she devoted her life.  Anne is survived by five sons, Jim (Carol Halal) and Rick (Charlie Parsons), both of New Smyrna Beach, Bill (Mary) of Durham, NC, John (Laura Duran) of Albany, NY and Philip (Genny) of Maryville, TN; two daughters, Mary Kate (Mikel) Cumiskey of Edgewater and Carol Ann (Garrett Doherty) Davis of Newtown, CT; three sisters, Wilhelmina Slater of Austin, TX, Carolyn Lawrence of Gainesville and Nancy (Edna McCown) McKenzie of Amenia, NY; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James R. Davis in September, 2001.  Visitation will be from 2 PM until 6 PM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Dudley Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach.  Funeral service will be 2 PM Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Christ Community Church, 1210 Mission Drive, New Smyrna Beach, with Rev. Larry Husebo, former pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, Edgewater.
