William T. "Tom"

William T. “Tom” Ingle, Jr., 89, New Smyrna Beach, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Tom was born May 16, 1928 in Bankhead, Alabama and moved to New Smyrna Beach with his family as a teenager. He was a 1947 graduate of Live Oak School. Tom was a locomotive engineer for the Florida East Coast Railroad until the strike in the 1960’s. He then began a new career with the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department and was instrumental in securing the department’s first employee pension plan. Tom retired from the fire department in 1989 as assistant fire chief. He was a founding member of the Boat and Ski Club and after retirement he had more time for fishing and looked forward to Cobia season each Spring. Tom never met a stranger and would lend a hand, tool or his expertise on any do it yourself project. Survivors include his wife, Louise; son, David (Jody); daughters, Terri (Rob Leonard) Ingle and Carol (Paul Santopietro) Norville; three stepdaughters; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Golda Howell Ingle; brother, Charles; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ruth and Bill Ellis and grandson, Trey Sapp. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairgreen Assisted Living and VITAS Hospice for the kind and gentle care they gave to Tom. It was Tom’s request that there be no funeral service. Cremation will be by Dudley Crematory, New Smyrna Beach.
