Robert A. Wrobel
October 24, 1922 - April 6, 2021



Robert Anthony “Bob” Wrobel, 98, New Smyrna Beach, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2021.  Bob was born in Chicago, IL on October 24, 1922 to Harry and Marie Wrobel.  He grew up in Nutley, NJ and enlisted in the US Navy in 1943.  He graduated from Navy Flight Training in 1944 and was a pilot in the Naval Transport Service during WWII.  Bob married the love of his life, Dorothy deWolfe on April 7, 1945.  He was a wonderful father to his two children, Robert Michael and Catherine Mary.  The family moved to Miami when he accepted a job as a check pilot with the FAA.  Bob was very proud of his accomplishments with the FAA which included work with the B-727 and with writing the training manual for the first A-300 airbus.  Upon his retirement, Bob and Dorothy moved to New Smyrna Beach where they enjoyed many years of retirement as members of Sugar Mill Country Club.  Bob loved being a pilot and playing golf with his friends, but his first love was to his devoted wife and family of which he was very proud.  Bob is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Dorothy; his son, Robert (Bonny) Wrobel of New Smyrna Beach; his daughter, Catherine (Richard) Guttman of Harpswell, ME; seven grandchildren, Katie (Daniel) Mather, Danny (Sophie) Guttman, Karen (Bill) Brindle, Denise (Danny) Gallagher, Bob (Lori) Wrobel, Jenny (Chris) Webb and Chris (Catherine) Wrobel and eleven great grandchildren.  Memorial Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach with Father Patrick Quinn, T.O.R., Pastor, officiating.  A celebration of life will follow at 2 PM at The Preserve at Turnbull Bay Golf Course, New Smyrna Beach.  Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the Human Service Ministry at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 4000 S. Atlantic Ave., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 or Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL  32129.
